Zoom!® Teeth Whitening
State-of-the-art technology in cosmetic dentistry is revolutionizing
the way your teeth can look, and that's fully embodied in Zoom!® teeth
whitening. Garland, TX residents are accustomed to seeing models and
movie-stars walking about town with seemingly perfect, bright teeth.
You can achieve similar results as well!
Zoom!® teeth whitening is a teeth bleaching technology which can help
you acquire teeth up to eight times lighter than they are now in a single
office visit. Dr. Elizabeth Samuel will coat the enamel of your teeth
with a whitening gel and then heat them using a special lamp. The heat
will break down the gel, allowing oxygen into the hard part of the teeth.
The oxygen harmlessly bleaches the teeth, drastically reducing the appearance
of tobacco, wine, tea, coffee, and soda stains.
Some patients may not be candidates for Zoom!® teeth whitening, including
women who are pregnant, people who are sensitive to light, patients
involved in photo-chemotherapy treatments, and/or patients who have
been diagnosed with melanoma. However, there are other alternatives,
which Dr. Samuel can discuss with patients who are not candidates that
can also effectively whiten the teeth. Dr. Samuel also offers an at-home
teeth whitening kit that works much the same way as the in-office treatment.

Whitening Trays
For bleaching done at home, at your convenience, Dr. Samuel will make
a custom made bleaching tray that fits on your teeth. She will instruct
you on how to place the gel in the trays and how to wear them. You
may wear them during the day or sleep with them overnight. The trays
work great alone but can also serve as a follow up to in-office bleaching.
Having the trays at home will allow touch-ups when ever you feel the
need to whiten your teeth again.

Porcelain Veneers
Over time, teeth can become chipped, stained, and misaligned in ways
that can affect the look of your smile as well as your oral health.
Straighten your teeth without the unpleasant appearance of shiny metal
braces. Porcelain veneers require less removal of the tooth's surface
than a full porcelain crown, and are tinted to match the color of
your teeth.
Dr. Elizabeth Samuel will create an impression of your teeth to tailor
the veneer specifically to the damaged tooth. Within seven to ten
days, your porcelain veneers will be ready to place at our office
in Garland, TX. The veneers will be bonded to the teeth and exposed
to a special light which hardens the veneer to the surface of the
original tooth, resulting in a strong, healthy-looking, and aesthetically
pleasing tooth.
Porcelain veneers are extremely durable and can last for decades if
taken proper care of, but they aren't completely impervious to damage.
Patients should avoid using teeth fitted with porcelain veneers to
bite down on hard or sharp foods, and should take care of them as
they would the rest of their teeth. Porcelain veneers for our Garland,
TX region patients are a wonderful way to mask damaged or stained
teeth, and bring a new sparkle to your smile.

comprehensive oral exam to identify problem areas such as cavities,
fractured teeth and fillings, and other issues. Dr. Samuel and her staff
will also focus on how your teeth are lining up with each other, and
if they could ultimately cause headaches, sinus pressure, or other problems.
Most likely, x-rays will need to be performed during an oral exam, but
they are generally quick and painless and will help Dr. Samuel in the
treatment of your teeth.

Cleanings
Routine professional teeth cleanings can be essential to good dental
health. Cleanings keep your teeth healthy and looking fresh. When combined
with oral exams and x-rays, cleanings can also identify potential dental
problems and treat them before they get worse. Tooth decay, oral pain,
and even tooth loss can be prevented with routine teeth cleanings. Dr.
Elizabeth Samuel and her trusted staff will clean your teeth, identify
potential problems, and work to keep your teeth healthy and beautiful
during this traditional dental treatment.
Periodontal (gum) issues are also looked for in teeth cleanings. One
of the most common conditions affecting the mouth is periodontal disease.
If the gums aren't properly taken care of, it can not only lead to tooth
loss, but to general health problems as well, including heart disease
and stroke. Periodontal disease is often caused by bacteria that infect
the soft tissue of the gums. Early warning signs of periodontal disease
may include swollen, inflamed, and bleeding gums. Dr. Elizabeth Samuel
offers comprehensive periodontal care at her general dentistry practice
in the Garland, TX area. Periodontal disease is a serious dental problem,
but with regular checkups and treatment, it can be significantly reduced
or entirely prevented.

Non-Surgical Gum Treatment
Periodontal, or gum, diseases can often be treated in the early stages
without surgical intervention. Dr. Elizabeth Samuel utilizes arestin,
an antibiotic used in conjunction with scaling and root planing to treat
periodontal disease. Scaling removes tartar and plaque from the gums.
This is followed by planing, which smoothes the root surfaces and allows
the gum tissue to heal. Dr. Samuel will check the progress of the gums
at a later appointment. As always, the best way to prevent periodontal
disease is to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss once
a day to prevent the formation of plaque.

Radiographs (X-Rays)
Dental X-ray examinations provide valuable information that your dentist
could not collect otherwise. With the help of radiographs (X-rays),
Dr. Samuel can look at what is happening beneath the visible oral tissues.
X-rays pose a far smaller risk than many undetected and untreated dental
problems.
If you are a new patient, the Dr. Samuel will recommend a full set of
radiographs to determine the present status of your mouth and to help
analyze changes that may occur later. If you have had recent radiographs
at your previous dentist, Dr. Samuel may ask you to have the radiographs
forwarded.
The schedule for needing radiographs at recall visits varies according
to your age, risk for disease and signs and symptoms. Recent films may
be needed to detect new cavities, or to determine the status of gum
disease or for evaluation of growth and development. Children may need
X-rays more often than adults. This is because their teeth and jaws
are still developing, making them more likely to be affected by tooth
decay than adults.

Fluoride Treatments
Many of us might remember rinsing our teeth with fluoride out of small
paper cups handed to us in elementary school. Fluoride rinses are still
important for children and no less important as we grow older. Routine
fluoride treatments can assist in the fight against tooth decay by helping
teeth build resistance to decay-forming acids. Dr. Elizabeth Samuel
offers this standard dental treatment to children to keep their teeth
healthy and prevent future problems.

Sealants
Cleaning the uneven surfaces of the teeth can be a difficult task, which
leaves these areas more vulnerable to cavities. Dr. Elizabeth Samuel
can attach sealants to the teeth in order to protect them from this.
Sealants are tough coatings that can block plaque and food from living
in these hard-to-clean areas. First, the teeth will be cleaned and examined.
Then, Dr. Samuel will coat the teeth with sealant, which will bond to
each tooth and harden. The whole treatment should only take a few minutes
for each tooth. Sealants are long-lasting and extremely durable methods
of preventing tooth decay and other future dental problems.

Tooth-Colored Fillings
The silver-toothed smile is a thing of the past. Tooth-colored fillings
at our Garland, TX dental office are tinted to match the color of your
teeth. They are also considered safer and more durable than traditional
mercury fillings.
Composites
Tooth-colored (composite) fillings are made out of a strong resin and
are virtually undetectable. Traditional amalgam fillings have a tendency
to weaken the tooth because so much of the original tooth must be removed.
Tooth-colored fillings require less removal of the tooth and can be
expected to last much longer than amalgam fillings.
During your visit, Dr. Elizabeth Samuel will prepare the damaged tooth
by removing the present filling or decay and binding the new composite
to the surface of the tooth. The resin will then be hardened by a special
light focused on the area. Tooth-colored fillings are revolutionary,
making the results of one of the most common dental treatments more
pleasing to the eye. Tooth-colored fillings at our office serving Garland,
TX make it easier for you to chew, smile, and talk. Tooth-colored fillings
also come in varying shades of white so they blend with the natural
color of your teeth.
Another advantage to tooth-colored filling material is its ability to
act as a dental bond. The tooth colored composite material is not only
more aesthetically pleasing, but it also requires less removal of the
original tooth.

Endodontic Therapy (Root Canals)
Many people fear going to the dentist because they are scared of needing
a "root canal"; however, this procedure is not one to fear.
In fact, root canal therapy is one of the most frequently performed
and highly effective treatments to eliminate pain and restore damaged
teeth. Every tooth has a small system of nerves called pulp. The pulp
provides nutrients to the tooth, and is attached to the tooth's root.
If the pulp becomes damaged or infected, it could lead to the loss of
the tooth. With root canal therapy, Dr. Elizabeth Samuel removes the
pulp and cleans and reshapes the root. She will then permanently seal
the area and, in most cases, cover it with a crown. Dr. Samuel tries
to make every procedure as painless and comfortable for the patient
as possible, and endodontic therapy is no exception. Root canal therapy
can go a long way in saving your teeth.
